Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Identity may be defined as the distinctive characteristic belonging to any given individual, or shared by all members of a particular social category or group.
Collins English dictionary defines identity as the state of having unique identifying characteristics held by no other person or thing; the individual characteristics by which a person or thing is recognized.
A person’s identity is his or her own sense of self; of who they are. For example, your identity may be that you are a female, who is honest, warm, caring, intelligent, and sometimes moody. This then might be your identity, and you carry it with you wherever you go. The way you perceive yourself, your actions, your thoughts, and your interactions with others are all influenced by this identity. For example, if you do something very well (like get an “A” on an exam), you might associated it with your identity – “of course I got an ‘A’, I am an intelligent person who does well on things I set my mind to.” Likewise, when we do something wrong, bad, or simply goes against our identity, we may protect ourselves by attributing this behavior to something or someone else (I failed the test because the teacher gave all trick questions, not because I am not intelligent). Our girls our struggling to find their identity. Since they are unsure of what their identity is suppose to be they are being influenced by who they hang around the most, what they hear the most, what they feel the most and what they see the most. The fact of the matter is our children spend the majority of their time away from us, away from the church and away from those who really do love them so if our influences are not pressing into their spirits mightily while they are in our presence then they will be influenced by outside sources. Did you really understand what you just read? Let me repeat it because I don’t want you to miss the point.
The fact of the matter is our children spend the majority of their time away from us, away from the church and away from those who really do love them so if our influences are not pressing into their spirits mightily while they are in our presence then they will be influenced by outside sources. Those outside sources can cause our children to be in bondage, confused and lost to say the least. There is no way a video vixen should be an aspiration of our girls. There is no way being somebody’s baby mama should be an aspiration for our girls. There is no way being somebody’s mistress should be an aspiration of our girls. The devil is a lie!
Every girl is different and they cannot all handle the same thing. One girl can watch basketball wives and not be moved by it where another can watch it and think this is life. We have to know the strength and weakness of our girls and train them up accordingly. We have come to far as women to digress backward in our children. We all have made mistakes but can now chose to move forward and do better. We only have them for a little while before they will be on their own, out of sight and out of reach. So while we can still put holy hands on them let’s make sure we are making a difference in their lives. They shall know their identity by any means necessary!
Father our girls shall know their identity from the word of God and not through the media, men, friends or any other sources used by Satan.. Our girls shall know and appreciate their own self value. Our girls shall have self respect that comes from within. Our girls are covered by the blood of Jesus day in and day out. Our girls shall have great self esteem that comes from God. Our girls shall succeed and not fail. Our girls shall live a life pleasing to God. Our girls shall know their identity in Christ. They shall know they are God’s masterpiece created new in Christ to do good things. In Jesus name, amen!
